Fniberry® Bilberry Extract Series
High-purity wild bilberry anthocyanins from cold-region forests
Product Overview
Fniberry® Bilberry Extract is produced from wild European bilberries (Vaccinium spp.) growing in the Greater Khingan cold-region forest, one of the most pristine and biologically rich berry ecosystems in the world.
This region, known as the “Wild Blueberry Capital of China”, holds over 90% of China’s wild bilberry resources. Extreme cold, permafrost soil, and high UV exposure drive the berries to naturally accumulate exceptionally high levels of anthocyanins and protective polyphenols.
Fniberry® Bilberry is widely used in eye health, antioxidant, cardiovascular, and functional nutrition formulations.
Unique Cold-Region Origin
Wild bilberries from the Greater Khingan Range (52°N latitude) grow under extraordinary environmental stress:
-
Annual average temperature: –2.4°C
-
Winter lows: down to –53°C
-
Snow cover: ~210 days per year
-
Forest coverage: 86%
Large day-night temperature differences stimulate the production of secondary plant metabolites, including anthocyanins, flavonoids, and polyphenols.
Bilberry roots penetrate deep into frozen soil, forcing the plant to build dense phytonutrient reserves — a key reason wild bilberries consistently outperform cultivated blueberries.
Botanical & Nutritional Profile
Botanical name: Vaccinium spp.
Part used: Fruit
Wild bilberries are known for:
-
Extremely high anthocyanin concentration
-
Fine flesh and tiny seeds
-
Naturally deep purple pigmentation
-
Balanced sweet-tart flavor
They naturally contain:
-
Polyphenols & flavonoids
-
Vitamin A & E
-
Superoxide dismutase (SOD)
-
Trace minerals (Zn, Fe, Mg, Ca, Cu, Ge)
This nutritional density has earned bilberries the reputation of “King of Berries” in functional nutrition.
What Are Anthocyanins?
Anthocyanins are water-soluble flavonoid pigments responsible for red, purple, and blue colors in berries.
Bilberry is one of the richest natural sources of:
-
Delphinidin-3-O-glucoside
-
Cyanidin glycosides
-
Malvidin derivatives
These naturally occur as glycosides, making them stable, highly bioavailable, and ideal for supplements, beverages, and functional foods.
Core Functional Benefits
Powerful Antioxidant Protection
Bilberry anthocyanins neutralize multiple reactive oxygen species (ROS), including:
-
Superoxide
-
Hydroxyl radicals
-
Hydrogen peroxide
-
Singlet oxygen
This protects lipids, DNA, and cell membranes from oxidative damage.
Anti-Inflammatory & Immune Support
Anthocyanins:
-
Down-regulate NF-κB inflammatory signaling
-
Reduce vascular adhesion molecules
-
Lower systemic inflammatory markers
Daily intake of ~300 mg anthocyanins has been shown to significantly reduce chronic inflammation.
Cellular & Anti-Aging Support
Anthocyanins help:
-
Reduce oxidative DNA damage
-
Support detoxification pathways
-
Promote healthy cell turnover
-
Inhibit abnormal cell invasion pathways
Eye & Microcirculation Support
Bilberry anthocyanins:
-
Improve retinal blood flow
-
Reduce visual fatigue
-
Strengthen capillary integrity
Natural Color & Formulation Advantages
Fniberry® Bilberry Anthocyanins also function as natural pigments:
-
Bright, stable purple-red color
-
Excellent water solubility
-
No precipitation
-
Clean-label and non-toxic
